BY design100 | 23-May-2013
Inaugurated in 2013, the design100 Australian Craft Awards aim to celebrate the role that craft plays in contemporary society. Craft is the art form that appeals to the most people in Australia. Recent Australian Bureau of Statistics research shows that over 2 million Australians practice craft.

design100 Australian Craft Awards recognises the enormous talent that resides in Australian craft through a series of state based Craft Awards, which documents every entrant and then selects outstanding recipients from a variety of self-selecting categories.

Entry to the Craft Awards will open on 12 June 2013 and will close on 26 August 2013. Outcomes will be announced during November 2013. All entrants will be documented on line and in hard copy in design100's new publication The Design Annual.

The Australian Craft Awards will be adjudicated by a panel of industry based curators and senior craft makers, coordinated by Joe Pascoe (former Director Shepparton Art Gallery and CEO & Artistic Director Craft Victoria).

Your involvement is low cost at $60 which will give you international exposure. Chosen recipients will receive special delete recognition at special award ceremonies around Australia and widespread promotion.

What is craft?

craft – most broadly but not exclusively, a type of art object or activity that generally exists in service to society and that has an aesthetic quality and/or practical application, based on a creative process connected to materiality (Joe Pascoe, Craft Victoria Business Plan 2012).
