Calling all artists and graphic designers from around Australia and across the world! The coveted Adelaide Fringe Poster Competition is on again and the Fringe is asking artists to capture the magic and essence of the much-loved festival in their designs.

The theme for the 2017 Adelaide Fringe and the Poster Competition is 'Made By You, For You, With You'. Adelaide Fringe Artistic Director & CEO Heather Croall said the panel of judges would be looking for entries that captured the exciting, magical spirit of the Fringe.

"The Fringe transforms Adelaide into a magic wonderland of mythical proportions and we'd love to see entries that represent that," Ms Croall said.

"The Adelaide Fringe is the people's festival "“ it's made from the grass roots up. The Fringe is what it is because of the hundreds of artists who register, the dozens of venues that participate, and the hundreds of thousands of audience members who come out and see shows.

"The artists and venues together create magical spaces that take the Fringe audiences to somewhere unexpected, somewhere new and we're looking for a poster that reflects that."

Adelaide Fringe is the largest open access multi-arts festivals in the Southern Hemisphere and has been running for 55 years. The winning design will go into the history books alongside other iconic Fringe posters that have become great collectable posters of their time.

The design will be incorporated into the branding and marketing material for the 2017 Adelaide Fringe. The winner will also receive $2000 and free artist's registration if they would like to stage and event or art exhibition in next year's Fringe.

Ms Croall said the poster competition had proved to be a career spring-board for previous winning artists and designers since its inception. The design can be in any medium or art form such as digital, illustration, painting, sculpture, photography or street art but the final entry must be two-dimensional.

Both Australian and international designers and artists are invited to submit a design and entry is free. The competition is open from Monday, 18 July, until Sunday, 14 August, at 5pm.

The 2017 Adelaide Fringe will run from 17 February until 19 March.
