Having completed the Jacky Winter Residency earlier this year, Sarah Kelk has embraced the colour, textures and quiet of nature as the starting point to this her latest body of work, entitled 'Common Ground'

Her distinct layered and energetic approach to painting is reconciled to include a more structured and refined collection of ideas. "I always feel like I"m torn with the style of my work. On one hand, I feel a strong need to work in an expressionist style, and then once I start, I always get pulled into the idea of producing strong, bold and almost geometric compositions. In this latest body of work, I decided to embrace both of those feelings." Kelk comments.

As the final exhibition for the year, Modern Times curator Irina Asriian is thrilled to announce this show. "Modern Times has such a wonderfully engaged audience, their response to this year"s exhibitions has been incredibly positive. We"re delighted to announce the final show for the year; Common Ground by Sarah Kelk has a distinctly bold direction and edgy palate. It is sophisticated and brings with it a hopeful energy!"

Having commenced her career in her native New Zealand, Kelk has been building her practice in Melbourne over the last six years, partaking in a number of curated exhibitions and appearing in several publications, including Design Files and Frankie Magazine amongst others. 'Common Ground' is Kelk"s second solo exhibition with Modern Times, following her sold out show in 2015, 'All Things Now'.
