Applications for the City of Melbourne 2016 Arts Grants Program are open and Arts and Culture Portfolio chair Councilor Rohan Leppert is calling out to artists and organisations to get involved. The Arts Grant Program funds one off projects of up to $20,000 in the categories of Arts Projects; Residencies, and Indigenous Arts projects. This year for the first time, the City of Melbourne is offering a series of Arts Residencies as part of the program. The Arts Residencies provide the opportunity for artists to work within the Council’s Arts and Heritage Collection and Creative Spaces Program to develop and expand their practice in any art form. Councillor Leppert said Melbourne values artists and art making.

“Melbourne is one of the world great arts cities and as highlighted in our Arts Strategy 2014-17, the City of Melbourne is committed to ensuring this remains the case well into the future,” said Cr Leppert. “These grants support artists so they can test, develop and execute their projects and ideas. Artists make a vital contribution to Melbourne and I encourage Melbourne’s arts community to take a look at the program and apply.”

The Arts Grants Program is underpinned by the City of Melbourne’s commitment to support artists, as outlined under the Funding theme in the City of Melbourne Arts Strategy 2014-17.

The Arts Grants are open to all artists, arts and community organisations for projects in any art form that take place in the City of Melbourne in 2016. Applications open on Monday 4 May and close on Monday 15 June.
