Christmas with the Australian Boys Choir

BY The Australian Boys Choir | 13-Nov-2012
Celebrated back in 1939, the first Australian Boys Choir Christmas Concert boasted the very literal name of ‘Christmas Carols and Choral Items’. Some 73 years on, the Choir’s tradition of celebrating Christmas with the Melbourne community still stands.

On Sunday 16 December at 3pm, the ABCI presents ‘Christmas with the Australian Boys Choir’ in the stunning Elisabeth Murdoch Hall at the Melbourne Recital Centre. This splendid program will feature Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, written in 1942 and first performed by the Australian Boys Choir in 1967.

Since then this masterpiece has become a regular and much-loved staple of the repertoire. Delyth Stafford, one of this country’s leading harpists, will join the boys for this work. As tradition demands, there will be opportunities for the audience to sing along to a rich heritage of carols, old and new, and of course, cameo appearances by all the ABCI training groups. As a special innovation, we expect to assemble a host of “old boys” of the Choir to make a guest appearance. Join the Australian Boys Choir for a community tradition and a very special Christmas treat.
