The collaborators on 'Chess' are giants of popular music and rock musicals, and they have created a contemporary piece of music theatre that has played to full houses and standing ovations on the West End. Here, the ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, cold war politics and international intrigue.

The pawns in this drama form a love triangle under the glare of media spotlight; the flamboyant American chess star, the earnest Russian champion and a Hungarian-American female assistant. The assistant arrives at an international chess match in Merano with the American but falls for the Russian! From Merano to Bangkok, they discover that it's not all black and white as the intrigue plays out to the pulse of a monumental rock score that includes 'One Night in Bangkok' and 'Heaven Help My Heart'.
