The $66 million redevelopment is well underway, preserving the building's heritage Tivoli façade and eastern wall while constructing a new 1,472 seat auditorium, with a Grand Circle as well as bars and modern facilities on every level.

Adelaide Festival Centre's Performing Arts Collection contains a treasure trove of costumes, posters, programmes and fascinating objects from the Maj. For a special exhibition to celebrate the theatre's history ahead of her reopening in 2020, theatre-goers, performers, musicians and technicians are invited to share unique memories and objects (by loan or donation) of this South Australian icon.

If you have an unforgettable story, theatre programs from 1950 or earlier, objects or costumes connected to shows performed at Her Majesty's Theatre, original photographs or artworks - we'd love to hear from you.

Visit www.adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au/HMTMemories or write to: Adelaide Festival Centre, King William Road, Adelaide SA 5000 (with submissions or written memories addressed to Memories of Her Majesty's Theatre Exhibition.)

Adelaide Festival Centre Performing Arts Collection Co-ordinator Helen Trepa: "This exhibition is unlike any other as it is a collaboration between the Adelaide Festival Centre and the public. We hope to collect an amazing array of objects, including rare items found during the redevelopment, which will tell the stories about this incredible theatre. This exhibition is for everyone who loves Her Majesty's Theatre."

Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier AM: "Her Majesty's Theatre is loved around Australia. Redevelopments in the sixties and seventies stripped the Maj of its original features and memorabilia. This special exhibition will explore Her Majesty's Theatre's fascinating past and celebrate its exciting future. When it reopens next year with brand new facilities, spacious backstage spaces and capacity to stage large touring shows, Her Majesty's Theatre will be accessible to all and a hub for great arts and entertainment in the market/Chinatown precinct."

In addition to memorabilia for the exhibition, you can also help preserve the past, present and future of the arts in South Australia through monetary donations to the ongoing redevelopment of Her Majesty's Theatre. Visit http://hermajestystheatre.org.au/#her-majestys-needs-you

The Memories of Her Majesty's Theatre exhibition will be in Adelaide Festival Centre's QBE Galleries at from Saturday 6 April - Sunday 12 May 2019.
