Carolyn Menzies | In Slender Times

Published by: Linden New Art | 29-Jul-2021
Carolyn Menzies will present a series of sculptural works and charcoal drawings that explore materiality and the intersection of art and craft. Menzies' sculptures are made from steel wool and steel mesh. Steel is a hallmark of modern sculptural practice, however Menzies' use of the material gently subverts this legacy as the wool and mesh are unashamedly domestic.

Menzies is concerned with the politics of the personal and her work explores the complexity of the often-invisible labour that takes places within a domestic context, as compared to the very public nature of art. Menzies takes materials usually found under the sink to create sculptural tributes to this otherwise unrecorded sum of human endeavour.
