The AWESOME Arts 2020 Creative Challenge was in Bungaree again this year with new arts project, Tell Me More'. The program is designed for remote and regional schools and is presented in partnership with BHP.

Over the course of two weeks, the young people at Bungaree Primary School worked with artists-in-residence Alex Maciver and Darren Hutchens to explore the theme Tell Me More' around the voices and stories shared in their community. The artwork created by the students through this process could take shape as a book, photographs, pictures, videos, films or an online or digital medium and is entirely inspired by the culture, community, experiences and aspirations of the students creating it.

Alex and Darren worked with the students on a visual arts project, exploring the use of different techniques and textures of painting. Paint was used both inside and outside the classroom, culminating in an exciting permanent mural on the school's walls.

The student's final artworks were celebrated at a community event at the end of the program, where parents, teachers and community members were invited to visit the school's new colourful murals.

AWESOME and the Creative Challenge Team are also excited that BHP are back on board for another year as a proud supporter of the Creative Challenge program. They are instrumental in providing the opportunities for WA children to express themselves creatively even during this challenging year with COVID-19.

Creative Challenge is AWESOME's year-round regional program that visits predominantly regional and remote communities in Western Australia, as well as running some select metropolitan residencies. The theme Different Voices' celebrates the young people living in Western Australia, asking them to explore their own voice and consider those voices around them. Each art work created is unique and inspired by the culture, experiences and aspirations of the students making it, reflecting on their sense of identity, community and place. Our highly-experienced team of artists specialise in facilitating skills-focused, process driven workshops.
