AWESOME ARTS SET TO KICK OFF FESTIVAL SEASON

The Honourable David Templeman MLA, Minister for Culture and the Arts has announced the 2020 AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things which will kick off on Monday 28 September, in time for the September school holidays.

The Honourable David Templeman MLA, Minister for Culture and the Arts has announced the 2020 AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things which will kick off on Monday 28 September, in time for the September school holidays.

The announcement, made in collaboration with West Australian Ballet who will feature a world premiere of May Gibbs' iconic Gumnut Babies, The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie is the centrepiece of this year's festival to be presented in the Perth Cultural Centre.

The AWESOME Festival will be the first major arts festival to be presented in the State as we shift towards recovery, so I encourage families to be delighted by the 2020 program. said Hon. David Templeman MLA.

This year's AWESOME Festival will also feature The Nightingale by West Australian Opera, a work that has been developed in partnership with Co:3 Australia, WA Youth Orchestra and WA Young Voices, which will close the Festival's closing weekend.

It has been a challenging year for many Western Australian families and it is fantastic that the 2020 AWESOME Festival will commence our WA summer festival season. The AWESOME Festival offers high quality and affordable creative experiences for families and I hope that you will all take the opportunity to enjoy this outstanding event, said The Honourable Mark McGowan MLA, Premier of Western Australia.

As a part of the festival, The Pigeon and The Albatross by Australian Baroque Company, Valentine by Rachael Woodward (WA), Whoosh! by Sensorium Theatre (WA), A Piece of You by Greg Sinclair (Scotland), and Mountain Goat Mountain by Threshold (VIC) will all be performed.

There will also be numerous workshops, book launches and free play activities set to take place in a variety of spaces and venues around the Perth Cultural Centre including the State Library of Western Australia, State Theatre Centre of WA, His Majesty's Theatre, the Art Gallery of Western Australia and PICA Performance Space.

I am more excited than ever before to be able to present this year's AWESOME Festival and am humbled by the camaraderie and support that we've received on so many fronts from the State Government, our partners and supporters. We thank West Australian Ballet, and all of our fantastic local companies and artists who are working so hard to produce extraordinary shows in these challenging times, said AWESOME CEO/Artistic Director Jenny Simpson.

Further performances will be announced closer to the AWESOME Festival.
