The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) will end the year with a series of new beginnings including a world premiere from Australian pop music icon Heather Shannon. This work will join Rodrigo"s guitar concerto featuring Australian soloist Giuseppe Zangari in his first performance with TMO and Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams. Beethoven"s exhilarating third symphony, which many consider as the start of a new era in music, will close TMO"s phenomenal ninth season.

ARIA Award winner Heather Shannon has toured the world as a song writer and piano/keyboardist with Australian indie rock band The Jezebels. Graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a major in piano performance, Shannon is another composition finalist exposed in TMO"s inaugural Composer Development program from 2016. Having already scored a work for film, this piece titled Sequence and Variation will reveal Shannon"s immense talents as an exceptional orchestral composer.

Rodrigo"s best-known work established his reputation as one of the most significant Spanish composers of the twentieth century. Australian soloist Giuseppe Zangari joins TMO and Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams for the first time to perform this magnificent guitar concerto. "Even though this is our last concert of the year, it feels like the start of a new and energised period in TMO"s immense and wonderful journey. In this concert we expose another sensational Australian composer in our fourth world premiere for 2017, feature another superb Australian soloist, and end with Beethoven"s triumphant and ground breaking third symphony. Met Concert 5 will be a stunning end to a huge season and mark a magnificent new beginning as we enter our tenth year in 2018," said TMO Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams.

Beethoven"s third Symphony titled Eroica, is considered a turning point in the history of music and a significant change in Beethoven"s phenomenal career. This exhilarating and energised work will present the perfect punctuation point to end TMO"s triumphant ninth season.
