In its biggest expansion since its founding in 1979, the Flying Fruit Fly Circus will offer weekly lessons during Victorian school terms in contemporary circus for students of all ages, from toddlers to adults, at their state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Collingwood.
Flying Fruit Fly Circus Chief Executive Richard Hull said, “So many young people have discovered the joy of circus through our public classes in Albury and progressed into professional careers. Whether it’s just for fun or a gateway into our full-time program, I’m excited for the Melbourne community to now have this same opportunity.”
Australia’s National Youth Circus is recognised internationally for its artistic excellence, youth training model and graduate success. Until now, its celebrated programs have only been available at the Fruit Fly’s full-time school and circus training program in Albury-Wodonga.
The new Collingwood base — which first opened its doors to circus professionals in October 2025 — provides access to families and adults across inner Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, delivering high-quality circus training.
The Fruit Fly’s bold, new initiative will allow students and artists to come together to create, train, rehearse and perform. The program offers an inclusive, learner-centred environment led by experienced trainers, using the circus’ distinctive teaching method, known for building confidence, creativity and technical foundation in a supportive, non-competitive setting.
Classes for children are designed to channel natural energy into skill development, imaginative challenges and safe, hands-on exploration with professional circus equipment. A dedicated development stream will be available for young people who show aptitude and commitment, creating pathways toward advanced training and the full-time Flying Fruit Fly Circus course in Albury, or a future career in circus.
Adult participants will also have access to a rare offering in Melbourne: a petit flying trapeze rig, alongside a range of specialised circus disciplines for all levels.
Classes begin on Wednesday 28th January 2026, with an open day (Saturday 17th January), and trial classes (Monday 19th January) preceding term 1.
Bookings are now open. For full program details and enrolments, please visit: www.circuscentremelbourne.com.au.
