This group has a reputation founded on longevity in the name of art and camaraderie. The original artists met through attending oil painting classes tutored by well-known local artist, Barry Kidd sixteen years ago. These classes inspired this group to continue painting together long after the tutoring ceased. Barry also joined as a group member. Ursula Stiebritz took on the role of convener. Learning about the artists who make up this group, there is a diverse array of creative gifts using a variety of painting and drawing mediums, together with professional experience. The weekly meetings see all mediums in action from oils, acrylics, mixed media, water-colour, charcoal, pencil, and pastels. Styles can be traditional, contemporary or interpretative. Subject matter can range between portraiture, landscape, still-life, animals and abstract. The group members have all been involved in art exhibitions, over the years. You will have an opportunity to see the caliber of creativity contained in this collection that will be part of the "Inspirations" exhibition.

Once a month, the group has an in-house version of "show and tell" where the artists will present their latest works inviting constructive criticism and appraisal. There is trust, respect, honesty and integrity within this group - and this feedback helps the artists to flourish. Upon being asked what is so special about their group, some said that it feels like coming home - it is such a warm, inviting, and stimulating atmosphere. Others said that art participation helped forge wonderful friendships.

"Inspirations" opens at Redcliffe Art Society Old Fire Station Gallery [395 Oxley Ave Redcliffe] on Wednesday 24 July to Sunday 18 August. The Official Opening is on Saturday 27 July at 2pm. Barry Kidd has been invited to open the show. Light refreshments will be served. Free Admission. Ample parking.
