Carlos Barrios continues to play with familiar themes of human connection and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy. These concepts are portrayed by the figures and animals that inhabit his artworks.

‘Mas Alegria’, or ‘More Joy’ is Barrios’ fourth exhibition with Mitchell Fine Art and his latest exhibition continues his creative pursuit to create a sense of joy and where art becomes the healing balm.

Raised in El Salvador in Central America and the son of an archaeologist, Barrios is fascinated by how energy and belief can transform something simple, almost banal, into a powerful source of communication.

As a maker of pictures and objects, Barrios observes long periods of intense concentration and comments that this process often engenders an almost hallucinatory state as he ‘simply becomes the conduit through which the artworks are created’.

‘When involved in the act of creation, I find I am delivered a sense of peace. Life can challenge us, and it becomes important to have tools to shift one's perception, elevate one’s perspective and to inspire and heal us’, says Barrios.

An opening event will be held on Saturday 20th April from 2 - 4pm with Carlos in attendance.

The exhibition is showing from 16th April until 11th May 2024.

Mitchell Fine Art is located at 86 Arthur St in Fortitude Valley Brisbane.
