A solo exhibition by Ann Thomson, one of Australia's iconic female artists is showing at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane from March 25th. Ann Thomson's new exhibition draws from a multitude of residencies and painting expeditions around the world. Thomson, who is originally from Brisbane, has been painting for over 50 years and has taken her art around the world. After periods in New York and London Thomson is now based in Sydney.

Since graduating from the National Art School in 1962 she has become a force in the Australian art scene. Known for her vibrant, expressive artworks Thomson's paintings are drawn from memories and experiences of places and things. Those memories and experiences are in themselves vast and colourful.

Her works are not intended to replicate a scene or a landscape, the intention is to evoke the sense of place and the associated feelings that are induced.

From the Snowy Mountains to the rainforests and islands of Far North Queensland Thomson's painting explore the concept of air and space.

The exhibition is showing at Mitchell Fine Art, 86 Arthur Street Fortitude Valley from 25th March until 18th April.

Official opening celebrations will be held on Friday 27th March from 6pm. On Saturday 28th March Ann Thomson will conduct an Artist Talk and Q&A from 2pm. All events are free.

The gallery is open 6 days a week from Monday to Friday 10am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am until 5pm, with onsite parking available.
