A RIOT of COLOUR explodes in Altona, Victoria
The brief to the participating artists from Hobsons Bay Arts Society (HBAS) was simple. Submit your artworks for the annual members' exhibition. Canvases must burst with a spectrum of colour. There will be four categories to be judged.

"Whisper of Spring" by Glenda Smith 1st prize winner of mixed media section
Wintertime can be a dark period when the monochrome image dominates. To escape the winter doldrums, this exhibition brief encouraged that the colour wheel would come into play. The artists were asked to meet the theme of a colour riot and they happily complied with the challenge to incorporate a kaleidoscope of hues onto their canvases.
Four distinct categories were judged by renowned Altona artist David Payne.
Winning artists were Christine McPherson (oils/acrylics) for "Weedy Seadragon", Glenda Smith (mixed media) for "Whisper of Spring", Jane Devlin (pastel) for "Grevillea" and Felicity Nicholls (watercolour) for "Parrots on Parade".
A total of 67 entries were submitted.
Included in the gallery space and in addition to the exhibition are ten works by Victoria Smith, aged 97. Smith, a life member of thesociety, is impacted by macular degeneration and has been declared legally blind. She continues to paint intuitively every day.
