#InTheCityJHB connects Culture, Music and the city's colourful youth
South Africa's In The City Music Festival took the music festivities and experience up a notch this Sunday, with the rebranding of the festival into Can Do In The City, in collaboration with Nampak Bevcan's CAN DO! Brand and the Los Angeles based indie record label, Soulection. The festival expanded into a three show takeover with the main show hosted at Johannesburg's Go to event venue, Ellis Park Stadium. Johannesburg's multicultural buzz and exhilaration could be felt from the onset of the festival, while the city's trendy and fashionable concert-goers converged together at the music festival. The festival hosted soulection acts such as Sango, Jarreu Vandal and a host of other international acts like 6lack and Aminé.

Brand and the Los Angeles based indie record label, Soulection. This year #InTheCityJHB expanded into a three show takeover with the main show hosted at Johannesburg's Ellis Park Stadium. Johannesburg's multicultural buzz and exhilaration could be felt from the onset of the festival, while the city's trendy and fashionable concert-goers converged together at the music festival.
Budweiser was the official beverage sponsor at the festival, concert-goers were spoilt for choice at the foodcourt stands. The Wing Republic stand proved its popularity, as it was one of a few stands most frequented by the party goers. The event line up started off with sahar habibir and soulections' in house DJ, Sasha Marie, sosupersam followed up afterwards, she was later replaced by Full Crate with one of the most remarkable sets of the festival. Soulection' artists blended well with the South African culture, as jarreau vandal shouted out the crowd using South African slang in between his set and Sango thrilled the audience with his own rendition of the gwaragwara.
Vocal performances came on later in the day, and the alternative rapper Aminé was the first to be introduced to the crowd, performing songs from Good for you as well as the recently released ONEPOINTFIVE album, he showed that he was a rebel at heart as he encouraged fans in the general section to jump over into the golden circle. Security was left confused and powerless as a crowd of fans jumped into the golden circle and ran to the front of the stage. The R&B duo Majid Jordans' set right after Aminé was extraordinary and had the most creative stage setup of the night.
6lack's performance came on as the highlight of the night, he performed songs such as prblms' from his debut album and brought the crowd close to tears with the song disconnect' from his recently released East Atlanta Love Letter' album. His set was filled with hype and included Nasty C as the surprise act. The festival closed off with the final perfrormance by Mura Masa. InTheCityJHB was a memorable and highlight festival this year, and it is safe to say that anyone who didn't attended the festival suffered from a severe case of FOMO! Fortunately there is next year's festival to look forward to.
