51st Bacchus Marsh Rotary Art Show and Sale
Our Judge for 2023, Sophie Prince, is a Curator with the Australian and First Nations People Curatorial team at the National Gallery of Victoria. Sophie joined the NGV following 3 years as an editor and manager of the international contemporary arts & culture publication, VAULT Magazine. Prior to VAULT Sophie worked across curatorial and front of house operations at Heide Museum of Modern Art. Sophie is also currently honorary curator of the Victorian Bar’s Peter O’Callaghan QC Portrait Gallery and Collection.

Her academic background is in contemporary and postcolonial art which she continues to enrich and apply daily through her work. With over 10 years working in the arts sector, Sophie has worked as an independent curator and writer, as well as across commercial and institutional spaces, and continues her academic pursuits by intermittently undertaking residencies including with International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York and Arquetopia, Mexico.

The Rotary Art Show committee is continuously striving to encourage new and emerging artists and innovative use of both traditional and modern media techniques. Our eleven categories are evidence of this, while the Grow West prize presents a unique and interesting interpretive challenge.

We are also delighted to welcome well-loved local artist and art teacher, Jancice Webster, as the 2023 Artist in Residence.

The Gala Opening Night, held on the Friday evening prior to the show, is an ever- popular ticket-only event where priz-ewinners are announced and cheques presented. This is an evening of good food, wine and live jazz music, with the bonus of the opportunity to pre-purchase artworks.
