Mr. Ned Kelly as a letterbox in Cairns

Have you ever noticed how much the things surronding us can tell? All objects reflect something, they all have their own stories... We just need to recognise them! 365Cairns is a unique daily project with colours, shapes, forms, textures, style and design, with a taste of fun. Its intention is to showcase the culture and colourfulness of tropical Cairns from a totally different view. 365Cairns is all about letterboxes.

Even though they're only simple objects, they can be creative, colourful, funny, or even communicative. Standing guard at the premises, the letterbox is the first thing that greets visitors. It may tell us nothing or could even reveal a whole secret of the owner. How did it begin? It started 2 years ago, when a guy was searching for some inspiration on the streets. Eventually, he has fallen in love with the unique streetscapes of his lovely city, Cairns. Since then, he has been quite obsessed with finding the best looking letterboxes. By now he has crossed the 1000 km line on his pushbike while searching for those amazing objects. During the trips he is taking heaps of pictures.

After choosing the best ones, one photo is posted on www.365cairns.com.au every single day, throughout the whole year of 2012. His project, 365Cairns, is on Facebook as well, and he also performed at the Tanks Art Centre on a Pecha Kucha Night a few weeks ago. It’s worth to check out the whole collection from January to the most current/recent posts. Lots of absolutely incredible letterboxes from the streets of Cairns can be seen on the website, and there’s a chance to win some awesome prizes as well. If you know about or come across an interesting letterbox somewhere in Australia, take a picture of it and send it in! Join his project now and discover the amazing, never before seen world of letterboxes across the region of Cairns.
