2020 Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund Applications Now Open

Published by: Adelaide Fringe | 22-May-2019
Artists, producers and venue operators are invited to apply for grant funding to help them create and present shows as part of Adelaide Fringe's 60th Anniversary next year.
Each year the Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund awards grants to help Australian artists bring ground breaking and daring work to the festival. For the first time, the funding program will also provide grants to support South Australia producers and venue operators wishing to participate in the 2020 festival.

Adelaide Fringe Director and CEO Heather Croall said the festival would not be possible without artists and venues and the Fringe was committed to supporting them to present work.

"Some of these works wouldn't be possible without our support, and we know that our grants can help artists leverage other funding for their shows, so they can make a huge difference," Ms Croall said.

"We're also excited to be able to expand the funding program to also assist SA producers and SA-operated venues that are an invaluable part of the whole Fringe experience.

The artist grants are split into two categories - Make It Happen (up to $4000) and Innovate (up to $10,000).

Make It Happen grants provide financial assistance across three categories - travel, marketing and production - to support artists in covering the costs of their Fringe season.

The Innovate grants support daring and diverse new projects that will premiere at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe and have an ongoing 'life' after the festival - including future touring or presentation opportunities.

Meanwhile, SA producers can apply for funding up to $10,000 to cover operating costs, office rent, marketing and wages and SA-based Fringe venue operators can apply for funding up to $10,000 to improve accessibility or sustainability, upgrade infrastructure or technology, or to cover marketing costs.

Established in 2014, the Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund has delivered about $300,000 in grants to help independent Australian artists present a show in the Adelaide Fringe.

Ms Croall said many of the previous Artist Fund recipients had seen their work go on to be presented across Australia and overseas.

"We're so proud to support exciting and daring work in the early stages of development, and it's encouraging to see so many of our Artist Fund recipients going on to scale new heights," she said.

Last year's recipients included Adelaide-based independent theatre company Under the Microscope presenting 30,000 Notes, which received three 2019 BankSA Fringe Awards.

Applications for the 2020 Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund are open until 11.59pm (ACST) Wednesday, 17 June. For more information, please visit adelaidefringe.com.au/adelaide-fringe-artist-fund or contact the Adelaide Fringe Artist & Venues team at artists@adelaidefringe.com.au or on 8100 2022.
