2014 FESTIVAL OF VOICES HANDMADE LAUNCH
Proudly launched by the Festival of Voices in 2013, the series presents a feast of Tasmanian and world premieres, featuring works that are lovingly crafted and home-grown. Curator Robert Jarman from Blue Cow Theatre said: "Handmade was dreamed-up by Festival of Voices in 2013 to provide an opportunity for Tasmanian music/performing artists to be adventurous. It's a chance for the artists to try-out new ideas and "test-drive" new work."
This Friday, hear the stories behind the work from Rowan Smith (HOOLAHOOP), Craig M. Wood (A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM) and Ange Boxall (WRITING LETTERS) as well as intimate acoustic performances from all three artists.
Fast cementing itself as a cornerstone in the development of Tasmanian artists, Handmade offers the state's budding talent an exciting platform for new works, as well as the opportunity for audiences to get up close with fresh, emerging artists before they explode.
Over the ten days of the Festival of Voices, Hobart's Peacock Theatre will be transformed by Handmade into a creative haven of local theatre, poetry and an array of incredible local sounds from roots, flamenco, folk to classical music.
Festival CEO Paul Kooperman said: "Following the success of Handmade's inaugural program in 2013 where two shows went on to successfully tour interstate, the Festival of Voices is thrilled to welcome another brilliant line-up of home-grown talents, ready to dazzle Hobart."
Handmade is part of the 2014 Festival of Voices, Australia's premier celebration of the human voice, uniting a diverse pool of extraordinary vocalists to create a festival experience like no other. In its tenth birthday year, the festival welcomes individual singers, choirs and music lovers from across Australia, as Hobart comes to life with the sound of music.
