Indonesian Dancers bring their Earthquake Survival Story to Australia

After tours to New York, Berlin and Singapore, Nan Jombang Dance Company are heading to Brisbane to premiere their latest show Tarian Malam, which explores their personal experiences of the 2009 Padang earthquake. Tarian Malam is on 9 – 11 August at Brisbane Powerhouse before heading to Darwin Festival.

Double Take, White Rabbit Gallery, opening Aug. 31 The White Rabbit Gallery's new exhibition, Double Take, is in part a birthday celebration. As the Sydney art museum turns three, it is taking a look back as well as forward, mixing new pieces with some of the most popular works from earlier shows. Gallery manager Paris Neilson says the double-take theme works on two levels. "Where people have seen an artwork before, they'll see it in a new context this time, and that will add a whole new dimension. And with all the works we've chosen, there's a sense of 'This isn't what it seems to be.' You think, 'Hang on, what did I just see?' And you look again."

The CONTEXTART-FORUM in the Blue Mountains

‘CTA-F’ is short for ‘CONTEXTART-FORUM’ – a week-long celebration of arts and crafts held in autumn in the mid-Blue Mountains - the first in 2012 and was so successful that this is now an on-going initiative of TAFTA, a long standing not-for-profit organisation. Dates for 2013 are 13-19 April with two venues used: Korowal School Hazelbrook and Springwood High School, Faulconbridge. A few workshops are offered for two days or four days only. Some are run as a full 6-day workshop option due to subject matter and time needed. But most tutors offer both a 2-day AND a 4-day workshop. Artists and people of wealth travelled through Europe, in particular Italy, during the 17th and 18th centuries. The Grand Tour allowed visitors to the great cities to enrich themselves with the art and culture that was there for their delectation. Turin, Venezia, Padua, Florence, Rome and Bologna were all key stops along the Grand Tour route. Since May 2011 l have been living in Bologna, traveling to such places, and other smaller cities and towns; painting, drawing, and visiting the many museums and churches.
