‘Petite’ rounds off the 2017 exhibition year for Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley, presenting a collection of small, beautiful Aboriginal and Contemporary artworks from the gallery’s stable.

The exhibition incorporates diverse art styles, themes, mediums and frames in an eclectic and harmonious salon style hang.

With all works under 1m in width and height the exhibition showcases works by artists on a small scale.

A stunning display of works from all Gallery represented artists including Bernard Ollis, Carlos Barrios, David Hayes, Deirdre Bean, Franck Gohier, Geoff Todd, George Gittoes, Jeff Makin, Joel Rea, Margaret Loy Pula, Min Woo Bang, Mirra Whale, Steve Lopes and Stewart MacFarlane.

The exhibition inspires viewers to not think big but to take time to look at the smaller things and to be encouraged to be adventurous in displaying art in a space.

Showcased in a salon style hang the exhibition features large groupings of paintings, watercolours and ceramics all presented together in a visually stimulating display.

Salon-style hanging dates back to 17th century Paris and involves grouping art pieces together. It offers several advantages for viewing work including: • more artworks can be displayed in a space,
• the variated approach allows for connections or contrasts between multiple works, styles, mediums, or artists.
• a display can be added to over a period of time.

There are no rules as to how you display works. You can follow colour combinations or a theme for each wall.

‘Petite’ demonstrates how enthusiasts can start small and create their own works of art, and encourage collectors to maximize their wall space, in their own unique style.

The exhibition is showing at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley Brisbane from 22 November until Saturday 23rd December.

The gallery can be followed on Facebook or Instagram or sign up to the gallery's mailing list via the website.
