Sunshine Coast-based artist Peter Hudson’s exhibition is a homage to whomever your creator may be, an appreciative recognition of what we have and all that we should be grateful for.

Peter Hudson is a landscape and portrait painter who lives and works in Maleny, Queensland. Peter draws largely on contemporary Australian history for inspiration in his art making. Regular painting trips and sketching ‘en-plein air’ form an integral part of his art-making process in capturing the spirit or essence of the landscape.

‘The landscape painter will eventually understand and attest that nature is in fact perfect, meaning when you look at any natural landscape you know that not a single blade of grass, or grain of sand is out of place, and every mountain, river, tree, creek, valley, hill, cave, billabong, cloud, is exactly where it should be,’ says Hudson.

‘Everything is, in the right place at the right time. This is a gift for the landscape artist, as all the usual problems and decisions concerning design, tone, colour, what to include, what to leave out etc. have been taken care of.’

Peter has been particularly influenced by a keen interest in Aboriginal Australian post colonisation. His paintings and drawings have a deep connection to country and the natural world.

Peter Hudson is represented in the collections including the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Parliament House in Brisbane, and the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.

The exhibition is showing from 6th – 24th September 2022 at Mitchell Fine Art in Arthur St, Fortitude Valley Brisbane.

An exhibition opening will be held on Friday 9th August, from 6 - 8pm with Peter Hudson in attendance.

On Saturday 10th September from 11am Peter will hold an Artist Talk in the Gallery. All events are free and rsvp’s are not required.

A concurrent survey exhibition, the largest in the artist’s career, is showing at the University of the Sunshine Coast Art Gallery.

Mitchell Fine Art is open 6 days a week; Monday to Friday 10am - 5.30pm and Saturday 10am - 5pm, with parking available onsite.
