Trompe L'ou

Trompe L'ou is a variation on the French term Trompe-l'œil. It's an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create an optical illusion. Louise Woodmansey is an artist that has been perfecting this technique for many years. Her latest project, in a cafe at the old paper mill in Fyansford, is becoming a real attraction. This short film reveals a remarkable partnership behind the work.

The CONTEXTART-FORUM in the Blue Mountains

‘CTA-F’ is short for ‘CONTEXTART-FORUM’ – a week-long celebration of arts and crafts held in autumn in the mid-Blue Mountains - the first in 2012 and was so successful that this is now an on-going initiative of TAFTA, a long standing not-for-profit organisation. Dates for 2013 are 13-19 April with two venues used: Korowal School Hazelbrook and Springwood High School, Faulconbridge. A few workshops are offered for two days or four days only. Some are run as a full 6-day workshop option due to subject matter and time needed. But most tutors offer both a 2-day AND a 4-day workshop. The EARLY BIRD price of $85/day is available to December 1, 2012. Then costs rise to $95/day. See website www.tafta.org.au to obtain an Enrolment Form or email tafta@iinet.net.au to ask for one.

The Grand Tour allowed visitors to the great cities to enrich themselves with the art and culture that was there for their delectation. Turin, Venezia, Padua, Florence, Rome and Bologna were all key stops along the Grand Tour route. Since May 2011 l have been living in Bologna, traveling to such places, and other smaller cities and towns; painting, drawing, and visiting the many museums and churches.

Australia will be taking on the world’s best at the ‘Olympics’ of street painting when Chalk Urban Art Festival champion Jenny McCracken travels to Italy for the historic 40th anniversary of the competition next month. Jenny will be competing against the world's best at Grazie di Curtatone, home of the world’s original street painting festival, accompanied by a film crew who will make a documentary of her journey to be screened in 2013.
