Stunning AWESOME Arts immersive experience in Mount Magnet

Artists Rachael Woodward and Chloe Flockart travelled over 560KM out to Mount Magnet District High School on Badimia country to explore storytelling, performance, sound design, media and projection with children on Creative Challenge.
Participants responded to the theme of “Gathering” by reflecting on their relationship to the bush and camping. The Mount Magnet DHS students started collecting stories, sounds and images to build an immersive sensory experience. They collaborated with shadow puppetry, painting and animation to create a “campsite” in the classroom with projected storytelling and audio components. This immersive performance was finally presented at the end of their 1 week residency at the school’s presentation night at the end of the year.
Families squealed with joy seeing shadows and illustrations moving, and recognising their peers and local community in the story.
Creative Challenge is AWESOME Arts annual artist in residency program. In 2021 we visited 22 communities across Western Australia to present process driven workshops with school aged children.
This residency was supported by Healthway with the Go for 2 & 5 healthy eating message.
