AMAZING Short+Sweet VOICES WORKSHOP April 3 - with Jonathon Welch!

Published by: Sirmai Arts Marketing | 21-Mar-2016
Australia's own Mr Choir himself, Dr Jonathon Welch (AM), will be special guest tutor (and judge) when Short+Sweet Voices begins this year's festival with a special April workshop.
Jonathon is founder of Sydney Street Choir for the homeless and disadvantaged, the Australian Pop Choir and Pop Kidz - among a host of other famous ensembles and choruses - and appears regularly on national TV and radio. He will lead the inaugural festival workshop at The Concourse on Sunday 3 April from 10am-5pm and then back up as celebrity judge at the festival final in September.

The mass a cappella choral music festival - which was such a hit last year - returns with district and regional heats in August, climaxing at the September Gala Final Chatswood's elegant Concourse performing arts centre. Heats in Petersham, Hornsby, Cranebrook and Kirrawee are a feature of this year's even bigger, bolder festival.

Short+Sweet Voices is an exciting new development in the Short+Sweet world, welcoming vocal performers, choirs and conductors to showcase their musical prowess "“ unaccompanied - in the 10-minute format. With its debut season in March 2015, Short+Sweet Voices brought the skill and creativity of choral performance to The Concourse stage.

In 2016 it is returning bigger and better, with new festival director Ben Oxley at the helm.
"Choral music is not only fun and healthy to sing "“ it's thrilling to watch and hear!" says Ben.
"Short+Sweet is especially excited to welcome Jonathon Welch who will inspire and guide our performers - and no doubt help them leap to the next level!"

Groups already confirmed include quartets, ensembles and massed choruses from the Central Coast, Northern Beaches, North Shore, Hills District, Inner West, Inner South West and more! Many more from Sydney, Greater Sydney, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and Wollongong are expected to be announced shortly.

Last year's choirs included those from Central Coast, Illawarra, Northern Beaches, Sutherland Shire as well as the Hills District, Berowra, the Northshore, Inner West and Eastern Suburbs.
